SUMMARY:A conversation exploring the intersection between our future forests and young forest stewards - WFC Korea
DESCRIPTION:Our global forests hold the key to some of the most timely and topical challenges of our time – a rapidly changing climate\, an expanding human footprint\, global food security\, and sustainable development. Young forest professionals are driving change and are at the forefront of this changing face of forestry – one that embraces innovation\, complexity\, and collaboration. This session will set the scene for the special event “The Future is Now: “Investing” in Young Forestry Professionals & Career Development” hosted by ForYP. Through the style of a fireside chat\, this side event will provide young forest professionals with an opportunity to engage in an interactive discussion exploring the diversity of forest professionals working across our forested landscapes. Through story-telling\, we’ll collectively explore the diverse and dynamic profession of forestry\, and share how unique and local environmental issues\, regional ecosystems\, cultural backgrounds\, and professional trajectories factor into what influences management practices and priorities across forest landscapes and forest regions across the globe. As future stewards of forests and forest ecosystems\, youth are positively influencing and shaping different aspects of forests and their resources in different capacities. This dialogue will provide a unique opportunity for young forest professionals to hear and learn from their peers’ lived experiences and realities of the forest sector. Through honest discussion and storytelling\, this side event will provide an opportunity for cultural exchanges (e.g.\, understanding forest sector work environments in different regions of the world) and reflect a sense of community and camaraderie within the sector. \n  \nLocation: Hall E4

SUMMARY:Gender-disaggregated data in the forest sector - WFC Korea
DESCRIPTION:The challenge of gender equality in the forest sector became more evident with the commitments with 2030 Agenda – SDG 5 and recent inclusion inside forest certification systems Principle and Criteria of FSC. In 2020 the first forest gender outlook was launched and shows the presence of women in around 50% of total forest plantation area in Brazil. Gender disaggregated data is the first step towards a more equally sector. The side event aims to bring private sector views around the gender outlook findings and promote a discussion with participants around other scenarios and opportunities such as partnerships and ways forward. \nFormer IFSA Treasurer\, Barbara Öllerer\, will be one of the speakers for this session.

SUMMARY:Forests in Women's Hand (FiWH) Conference
DESCRIPTION:At the international Forests in Women’s Hands conference from 12 – 13 April 2021\, connecting women in forestry will be a central theme. Participants will meet members of existing women’s networks and have the opportunity to exchange best practice examples and discuss relevant activities and initiatives. Additionally\, the conference will increase the visibility of women and their achievements in the forest sector. \nForest owners\, practitioners\, decision makers\, and academics will address questions such as: Why and for whom is gender equality important? What enables or prevents gender equality from being achieved in society and organizations? What determines if interventions contribute to achieving goals? \nThe conference is supported by the Austrian Ministry of Agriculture\, Regions and Tourism\, coordinated by the Austrian Research Centre for Forests (BFW) and sees as organising partners the Austrian Women in Forestry Association (Forstfrauen)\, the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) and the International Forestry Students’ Association (IFSA). Due to the currently still critical situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic\, the conference Forests in Women’s Hands will be held online. \n\nRegistration is required: https://www.forstfrauen.at/en/component/rsform/form/7-anmeldung-zur-forstfrauen-konferenz-2021?Itemid=243 \n\nDiscover more about IFSA involvement at the conferences
