SUMMARY:Harnessing the power of youth for enhanced climate action in the lead up to COP 26
DESCRIPTION:IFSA in collaboration with FAO and other Pre-COP partners is organizing the event on 1st October\,  2021. We are counting down the days to our joint pre-COP26 event on “Harnessing the power of youth for enhanced climate action in the lead up to COP26” and counting on you to help us promote the event!  \nThe roundtable will gather youth groups\, influencers\, companies\, academic institutions\, non-profits\, governments\, and the public to drive awareness\, foster engagement\, and advocate for agri-food systems transformation to reach climate change resilience through intergenerational collaboration and youth-led action. The interactive format aims at boosting climate action through audience engagement\, presentations and promotion of proposals/pilot projects and success stories. \nThis roundtable will provide a stage for some of the most innovative brains behind the solutions we can identify to address the climate-food systems poverty nexus. The event highlights the need for intergenerational collaboration between different stakeholders while presenting synergies and linkages between climate mitigation and adaptation\, poverty reduction and food security. The roundtable will provide recommendations and transformative solutions to make significant contributions towards achieving both the SDGs and the objectives of the Paris Agreement. \nThis event will provide a platform for solutions to some of today’s most urgent global challenges: Even though  we produce enough food to feed everyone in the world\, nearly 700 million  people go hungry. A number that is constantly growing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition\, an increase in threats including climate change\, pests\, plagues\, and conflict is compounding this global food crisis.  \nCovering a wide ethnic\, age\, and regional representation in the list of speakers from civil society\, private sector\, research and policymaker background\, the discussion will be between youth and senior leaders who have found concrete transformative solutions to make our food systems more climate-resilient. \nPlease register\, then share the invitation widely so that as many young people from around the world will join! \nWe invite you to register for the Pre-COP event “Harnessing the power of youth for enhanced climate action in the lead up to COP 26” taking place on Zoom on 1 October 13:00 – 14:00 CEST.  \n  \nCheck out the link to register : \nhttps://fao.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_YeKK3sNXThqqYzXmfv9R0w \n

SUMMARY:Training Series for Peatland Researchers
DESCRIPTION:The UNEP Global Peatlands Initiative’s Research Working Group has developed a new online training series for peatland researchers (others are also welcome!). The sessions are designed to build capacity across the peatland research community in research impact (9 sessions planned) and research skills. \nThe next GPI training session is scheduled on Friday 30th July 2021\, 10:00-11:30AM BST (UTC+1). This session will be entitled  “How to write and use policy briefs” and run by Jan Peters (Greifswald Mire Center) and Prof. Mark Reed (SRUC). \nLink to register : https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/how-to-write-a-policy-brief-tickets-156263491309https:/www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/how-to-write-a-policy-brief-tickets-156263491309 \n\nThis session is led by Jan Peters from Michael Succow Foundation\, also a partner in the Greifswald Mire Centre\, and Prof Mark Reed from Scotland’s Rural College. In the session\, you will learn how to write and use policy briefs\, considering different types of policy audience\, the benefits and risks of co-producing briefs with policy networks and different ways of using your brief to influence policy. Both trainers have extensive experience developing and using policy briefs with national governments and international policy processes on the EU and UN level\, and will present case studies of their own work in peatland policy. \nPreparation for the day\nPlease choose (only) one policy product to read and critique before the training. You can choose a policy brief\, an infographic or a presentation (note that presentations consist of both a PowerPoint file and a note file in Word with the same title and one has a video of the slides being presented). You will be asked to discuss the product you chose in small groups\, explaining what you liked or disliked about it\, and why. \nChoose the policy product you want to review from one of the three folders via this link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yrgsd8icbril25r/AAAVx7Stf8_o2PQ0dkJwPnIxa?dl=0 \n\nWe look forward to seeing you there ! \nTo find out about future sessions as they are advertised\, check the Research Working Group web page regularly: http://www.globalpeatlands.org/global-peatlands-initiatives-research-working-group/\, follow Fast Track Impact on Eventbrite (who are helping with bookings) here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/fast-track-impact-12561796325  or join the Working Group by contacting julie.vanoffelen@un.org \n

SUMMARY:Forests in Women's Hand (FiWH) Conference
DESCRIPTION:At the international Forests in Women’s Hands conference from 12 – 13 April 2021\, connecting women in forestry will be a central theme. Participants will meet members of existing women’s networks and have the opportunity to exchange best practice examples and discuss relevant activities and initiatives. Additionally\, the conference will increase the visibility of women and their achievements in the forest sector. \nForest owners\, practitioners\, decision makers\, and academics will address questions such as: Why and for whom is gender equality important? What enables or prevents gender equality from being achieved in society and organizations? What determines if interventions contribute to achieving goals? \nThe conference is supported by the Austrian Ministry of Agriculture\, Regions and Tourism\, coordinated by the Austrian Research Centre for Forests (BFW) and sees as organising partners the Austrian Women in Forestry Association (Forstfrauen)\, the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) and the International Forestry Students’ Association (IFSA). Due to the currently still critical situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic\, the conference Forests in Women’s Hands will be held online. \n\nRegistration is required: https://www.forstfrauen.at/en/component/rsform/form/7-anmeldung-zur-forstfrauen-konferenz-2021?Itemid=243 \n\nDiscover more about IFSA involvement at the conferences

SUMMARY:Those Who Have Come Before Us - Episode 2
DESCRIPTION:Leading up to the Forests in Women’s Hands online conference (12-13 April 2021)\, IFSA has developed a webinar series on gender & forestry with the support of the IUFRO TF on Gender Equality. Its aim is to shed light on the topic\, and provide learning opportunities for forestry students to solve today’s challenges surrounding gender in forestry. \nThis second episode wants to offer the perspectives of women who have already established their careers in the forestry field as a source of inspiration for future generations of foresters. The personal experiences and points of view of the women who have preceded us will offer the opportunity to understand how gender has played a role throughout their careers and to reflect on present times. This will stimulate a conversation with youth in forestry who are about to start their careers. In addition to generating understanding and mutual support\, young foresters are invited to put these stories in relation to their own experience\, which can help to understand how to best approach the challenges surrounding gender. \nSpeakers: \n\nPurabi Bose (India)\nKalpana Giri (Nepal)\nEva Müller (Germany)\n\n  \nLearn more about IFSA @ FiWH
