SUMMARY:Forests in Women's Hand (FiWH) Conference
DESCRIPTION:At the international Forests in Women’s Hands conference from 12 – 13 April 2021\, connecting women in forestry will be a central theme. Participants will meet members of existing women’s networks and have the opportunity to exchange best practice examples and discuss relevant activities and initiatives. Additionally\, the conference will increase the visibility of women and their achievements in the forest sector. \nForest owners\, practitioners\, decision makers\, and academics will address questions such as: Why and for whom is gender equality important? What enables or prevents gender equality from being achieved in society and organizations? What determines if interventions contribute to achieving goals? \nThe conference is supported by the Austrian Ministry of Agriculture\, Regions and Tourism\, coordinated by the Austrian Research Centre for Forests (BFW) and sees as organising partners the Austrian Women in Forestry Association (Forstfrauen)\, the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) and the International Forestry Students’ Association (IFSA). SUMMARY:CIFOR-ICRAF Digital Forum: Can tree planting save our planet?
DESCRIPTION:Tree planting has become the latest trend in helping to tackle the climate crisis. Business and political leaders like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have pledged to plant billions – even trillions – of trees across the planet as a fix for carbon emissions and degraded landscapes. \nOn September 29\, CIFOR-ICRAF in collaboration with the Global Landscapes Forum\, will host a half-day digital forum that will bring scientists\, forestry experts\, practitioners\, community groups and leaders\, investors\, entrepreneurs and policymakers together to share insights and scientific evidence to important tree planting initiatives. \nBy connecting tree planting to efforts on biodiversity and landscape restoration\, sustainable economic development and dismantling inequality\, the forum aims to highlight the need to get tree planting right. \nThe event is free of cost and everyone can attend.
