SUMMARY:IFSA Youth Forest Policy Conference (YFPC) 2022 Brainstorming Session
DESCRIPTION:Dear IFSA World\, \nWe are glad to announce that IFSA is planning the first-ever International Youth Forest Policy Conference in late 2022. The conference aims to educate young people about the importance of policy and empower them to participate in it. Secondly\, it is also important to produce a deliverable of the conference summarizing the viewpoints of those in the wider forestry field who are unable to attend the conference on the state of forestry and environmental policy. IFSA together with Forest Europe will actively work to ensure this statement will be taken into serious consideration in following policy-making processes and events. \nAs with every step we take\, we value the opinions of our members in every activity we organize and in every decision we make. Therefore\, we invite you to participate in a brainstorming session for the Youth Forest Policy Conference in order to hear your ideas and incorporate them into the planning. \nThe interactive event will take place on the 30th of January at 14:00 UTC+0 via Zoom where we have different activities and breakout sessions for exchanging ideas. \nTo participate in the brainstorming session\, please register until the 28th of January 23:59 UTC. \n\n\nRegistration\nWe are looking forward to seeing you! \nAgenda\n\nInteractive presentation about the conference\nBreakout room session with Jamboards\nGeneral discussion in the main room\nClosing remarks

SUMMARY:Webinar: How the heck did I end up here?
DESCRIPTION:How do you choose a career out of the many opportunities for young students of forest related fields? \n  \nAbout this event\n  \nEvent date: 24 November \nTime: 13:15 CET \nRegistration link: https://www.eventbrite.fi/e/how-the-heck-did-i-end-up-here-tickets-186597085907  \nEvent format: Virtual via Zoom\, registration is compulsory. \n  \nThe intention of this event is to reduce the anxiety about their future professional development\, and show how to face challenges and embrace new and uncommon opportunities based on success stories. We want to introduce professionals who have made unusual decisions regarding their career paths\, changed jobs\, dropped ideas\, moved on… We invite five speakers from all over Europe\, who studied a forest related field\, but are now working in a job that is unexpected. The event will show how the future of green jobs in the forest sector is evolving\, and the need for flexibility when choosing a career path is no longer the exception but reality – and fun!

SUMMARY:Harnessing the power of youth for enhanced climate action in the lead up to COP 26
DESCRIPTION:IFSA in collaboration with FAO and other Pre-COP partners is organizing the event on 1st October\,  2021. We are counting down the days to our joint pre-COP26 event on “Harnessing the power of youth for enhanced climate action in the lead up to COP26” and counting on you to help us promote the event!  \nThe roundtable will gather youth groups\, influencers\, companies\, academic institutions\, non-profits\, governments\, and the public to drive awareness\, foster engagement\, and advocate for agri-food systems transformation to reach climate change resilience through intergenerational collaboration and youth-led action. The interactive format aims at boosting climate action through audience engagement\, presentations and promotion of proposals/pilot projects and success stories. \nThis roundtable will provide a stage for some of the most innovative brains behind the solutions we can identify to address the climate-food systems poverty nexus. The event highlights the need for intergenerational collaboration between different stakeholders while presenting synergies and linkages between climate mitigation and adaptation\, poverty reduction and food security. The roundtable will provide recommendations and transformative solutions to make significant contributions towards achieving both the SDGs and the objectives of the Paris Agreement. \nThis event will provide a platform for solutions to some of today’s most urgent global challenges: Even though  we produce enough food to feed everyone in the world\, nearly 700 million  people go hungry. A number that is constantly growing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition\, an increase in threats including climate change\, pests\, plagues\, and conflict is compounding this global food crisis.  \nCovering a wide ethnic\, age\, and regional representation in the list of speakers from civil society\, private sector\, research and policymaker background\, the discussion will be between youth and senior leaders who have found concrete transformative solutions to make our food systems more climate-resilient. \nPlease register\, then share the invitation widely so that as many young people from around the world will join! \nWe invite you to register for the Pre-COP event “Harnessing the power of youth for enhanced climate action in the lead up to COP 26” taking place on Zoom on 1 October 13:00 – 14:00 CEST.  \n  \nCheck out the link to register : \nhttps://fao.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_YeKK3sNXThqqYzXmfv9R0w \n

SUMMARY:Nigerian Forestry Students & Graduates Roundtable
DESCRIPTION:According to FAO\, a changing society changes its demands on forests. Although global interests in forest are translated into international forest or environmental issues (treaties on biodiversity\, certification of forest management or products\, etc.) changes of demands at the national level are different.  \nForestry education in different countries is undergoing changes according to the national settings. While in some countries the number of students is growing or at least stable\, in others the number of students is declining. As a consequence\, funding for forestry education might decline and forestry education institutes are at risk in some countries. \nJoin us on the Forestry Roundtable for the Month of February as we host Alex Onatunji\, the IFSA coordinator\, Joint IUFRO-IFSA Task Force on Forest Education and a ERASMUS MEDFOR Scholar. Alex will be helping us understand the CURRENT STATE OF FORSTRY EDUCATION IN AFRICA: A YOUTH PERSPECTIVE. \nAdditionally\, Alex will be sharing his story on how he got into forestry and the opportunities forestry students and graduates in Africa can maximize. \nYou can join the session via zoom using this link: https://zoom.us/j/91319001154 or using ID: 91319001154.

SUMMARY:Forest policy in Europe: Are things getting done?
DESCRIPTION:How are new insights in forestry implemented into practice?\nHow can forest and agricultural policies be intertwined in a future-proof way?\nIs the Common Agricultural Policy in line with the European Green Deal?\nHow can forest policy tackle climate change?\nHow can a bottom-up approach in policy implementation be useful to manage complex phenomena like land abandonment?\n\nThese questions and many more can arise when thinking about forest policy in Europe. Policies are powerful and necessary tools that guide decisions to achieve common goals like sustainable and resilient forests. However\, to achieve these goals\, they have to be well-designed. \nDuring this webinar in English\, 3 keynote speakers will help us to understand the jungle of current and future European forest policies. \nZoom meeting\nID: 996 2982 2945\nPassword: 843279\nNo registration needed \nProgramme: \n\nShort introduction by IFSA LC’s\n‘Nature forest and agricultural policies intertwined’ by Prof. Myriam Dumortier (UGent)\n‘Climate change governance: forest and nature conservation’ by Dr. Jelena Nedeljkovic (University of Belgrade)\n‘Land abandonment and spontaneous reforestation: policies and people’ by Theresa Frei (European Forest Institute)\nPanel discussion: shoot your questions!

SUMMARY:Nigerian Forestry Students and graduates Roundtable session #3
DESCRIPTION:Learning is beyond geographical location and forestry students do have an opportunity to study abroad in order to get quality education\, experience culture and work in a new environment and international exposure. One of the easiest ways to do this is through a scholarship abroad route. \n“Scholarship programme for MSc and Phd students from developing countries. A forestry and natural resources targeted scholarship programme can be established under UNESCO or World Bank Scholarships Program.” was one of the recommendations by Monica Gabay and Mika Rekola (2019) in a background study prepared for the fourteenth session of the United Nations Forum on Forests [See here – https://ifsa.net/forest-education-needed-in-all-schools/] \nAs the scholarship application season draws close for the year 2021\, many forestry students and graduates in Nigeria and beyond are not aware of scholarships opportunities they can tap into. Others need to be fully aware of the requirements for scholarship applications while some are not informed about the process and the need to apply. \nThis topic is inline with the goal 3 – “Enable students to engage globally”of International Forestry Students’ Association (IFSA) 2018-2022 Strategy; IFSA overall vision of “a world that appreciates forests” and the objective of capacity building by the organiser of the Nigerian Forestry Students and Graduates round table session. \n  \nThe speakers are well experienced and are beneficiaries of one or more scholarships in the field of forestry\, they have also attended international forestry conferences among others and they are ready to share personal insights during this Webinar. \n  \nMeet our guests and learn more about them \n\nDr. Yemi Adeyeye\, YPARD Director and Erasmus Mundus Alumnus https://www.linkedin.com/in/yemi-adeyeye-53b36623\n\n\nMr. Bola Tomiyosi\, MasterCard Foundation Scholar\n\nhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/tomiyosi-bola-5ba079137 \n  \n\nMr. Fisola Adesuyi\, Erasmus Mundus Scholar https://www.linkedin.com/in/adesuyi-fisola-b4199714\n\n\nMr. Saliu Ibrahim\, Integration Analyst at Euroclear SA/NV and Erasmus Mundus Alumnus https://www.linkedin.com/in/ibrahim-sunkanmi-saliu-67bb7a17a\n\n  \nWebinar focus \n\nSearching for scholarships and noting their dates/ types of scholarships\nGeneral applications\, overview and general insights\nPreparing and collecting documents such as curriculum vitae or resume\, academic transcript\, English language proficiency certificate.\nEssay writing such as personal statement\, motivation letter\, leadership essay\, development essay\, financial situation essay etc.\nRelevant e-books will be shared also.\n\n  \nHosts: Meshach Aderele and Olaoluwa Adetula \nDate: Saturday\, 15th August\, 2020 \nTime: 1:00pm WAT \nRegistration: If you are joining the roundtable session for the first time\, please register through  http://bit.ly/maxrelevance to get the Zoom invite link.
