IFSA has the privilege to hold a double breakout session at the International Conference on Forest Education (ICFE) happening from June 22 – 24, organized by FAO, IUFRO, ITTO, CIFOR/ICRAF and the Secretariats of UNFF and UNFCCC. The organizers have the ambition that this conference will be a defining event in forest education and help to chart a path forward for forest education globally. The conference will celebrate the culmination of over a year-long effort involving global and regional partners to collect and synthesise information on the status and needs of forest education and training globally, and to raise awareness of the contributions that robust forest education and knowledge systems play in the achievement of multiple forest goals and forests’ contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals.
The participants will be invited to share their experience and perspectives through discussions of key challenges, needs, opportunities and initiatives to strengthen forest education.
There are several opportunities to get involved as a digital IFSA delegate. These include joining and driving the communication team, supporting the facilitation of the breakout session, and active participation in the discussion on forest education and the role that students play in improving and strengthening it.
The breakout session that IFSA is organizing is titled: “Breakout Session 2.3, Students in university level forestry and related programmes”.
It is split up into two parts:
Meeting 1: June 23, 15:15-16:45 Central European Time (UTC+2)
Meeting 2: June 24, 08:30-10:00 UTC+2.
IFSA is also co organizing with the EFI-IFSA-IUFRO project on “green jobs” session 1.7” The juncture of forest education and employment”, which will take place on the 22nd of June at 16:45-18:15 UTC+2 and on the 23rd of June 10:00-11:30 UTC+2.
