[Call for applications] TU Dresden Non-Timber Forest Products Winter School
Organized by the Institute of International Forestry and Forest Products
1. Goal
The winter school brings together interested students and leading experts in the field to promote learning through discussions, information exchange, knowledge, and innovation transfer.
2. Program date & Location
March 20 – 26, 2023, in Tharandt, Germany
3. Overview
- DAY 1: What are NTFPs & their roles in livelihoods
➢ Approaching the concept of NTFPs
➢ Categories of NTFPs
➢ Roles of NTFPs in livelihoods I
- DAY 2: Roles of NTFPs in livelihoods and NTFP value chains
➢ Excursion to NTFP processing company
➢ Roles of NTFPs in livelihoods II
- DAY 3: Measurement, quantification, and monitoring of NTFPs
➢ Approaches for measuring, quantifying, and monitoring
➢ Excursion to a research institution in Dresden to visit their research on NTFP cultivation
- DAY 4: Sustainability of NTFPs utilization and their management systems in a changing world
➢ Overview of social, economic, and ecological sustainability dimensions of NTFPs
- DAY 5: Barriers and enablers for sustainable NTFP use and management
➢ Case studies on NTFP management
➢ Reflections on cases
4. Participation cost and support
Participation fee is free of charge.
However, the Cost of accommodation, travel to Dresden and within Dresden, meals, and course materials must be covered by the individual participant.
5. Application procedure
For admission consideration, prospective participants are required to apply by submitting a one-page motivation letter expressing their interests and explanations of how the winter school will benefit them and a CV outlining their work experiences. The application documents should be submitted in English. Knowledge of English is a prerequisite for every participant.
