This month’s edition hosted jointly with the Plant-for-the-Planet will focus on “Driving Action for Restoration – Moving Beyond the ‘Bla Bla Bla’”. Following the outcomes of the UNFCCC COP27 and the UNCBD COP15, we will discuss the relevance of restoration goals and various commitments from leaders across the world, both in terms of financial resources and political will.

Our speakers:

✨Anna Gee is a Ph.D. student at Imperial College London researching the ecology of regenerating forests. She works at the Yucatán restoration site of Plant-for-the-Planet Mexico, where she does large-scale surveys of the young trees that are appearing through natural regeneration. Looking at these early stages in the life cycle of the trees can help to build up a picture of what forests at this site might look like in the future.

✨Amin Tamadon is an Iranian environmental activist and a PI and Associate Professor in stem cell research and therapy. He has been actively involved in environmental protection since 2015, particularly through the cultivation of trees and the education of students in primary, secondary, and universities in Iran. He is a member of the Beauty Planet Association (NGO), which has been active for the past 12 years in the restoration of mangroves. With the help of 100 active members in Bushehr, Iran, the NGO has planted more than 175,000 mangroves. The organization was founded by Reshad Balef, a filmmaker who is passionate about the environment and who has done several documentary films about mangroves, including the animals and plants that live there.

✨Robin Chazdon is Professor Emerita in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department at the University of Connecticut (1988-2016) and a part-time Research Professor with the Forest Research Institute at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. Her long-term and ongoing collaborative research focuses on the natural regeneration of forests, forest and landscape restoration, and ecosystem services provided by forests. She is the author or co-author of over 220 peer-reviewed publications, including her sole-authored book “Second growth: The promise of tropical forest regeneration in an age of deforestation” (2014).

As the principal consultant of Forestoration International LLC, she leads a small team producing Flagship Restoration Case Studies. Among other things, she is an active member of the FAO Task Force on Best Practices for the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, leading the Capacity, Knowledge, and Learning Action Plan for the UN Decade.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday! 🌳🙌
