What is the IUFRO 2024 World Congress?

The IUFRO World Congress is one of the largest global forest events, held every five years since 1893. The next IUFRO World congress will be held in Stockholm, Sweden from 23 to 29th June, 2024. The IUFRO World Congress 2024 is a collaborative global network platform with great opportunity for knowledge sharing and getting access to the latest science and research. The outcome of the event will also set the future research agenda and roadmap for next generations, this time focusing on Forests & Society Towards 2050.

Power of youth in scaling multisectoral collaboration: The role of forests in achieving the vision for 2050

With this session we aim to explore the key challenges in multiple sectors and the role of forestry in supporting development in these sectors. We will illustrate the vision of young people of what is needed to achieve the future the next generations envision. 

The first part of the session will be a picture-based “Ted-talk” format presentation highlighting the key challenges in the diversity of sectors represented in the session. The second part of the session will be a panel discussion which will discuss the role of forestry in addressing these challenges.

We strive to create a youthful, creative and unique session, which will provide concrete outcomes and leave the audience with a visual understanding of potential solutions

What are we looking for?

We are looking for three to five youth speakers who will jointly do a picture-based “Ted-talk” format presentation in the first part of the session. The topic of the joint presentation should focus on highlighting various challenges the society is facing, ranging from forest-related issues, climate crisis, food security and other global challenges. 

Your background does not have to be in forestry and we are looking for students with a diverse background in different fields. We hope to find enthusiastic, well-spoken young people who can deliver this talk in an engaging, interesting and lively manner. 

 

What do you get?

Selected speakers will get fully funded travel and accommodation to Stockhold for the duration of the congress. In turn, the speakers will be part of the IFSA delegation, and aside from the event, will contribute to the activities of the IFSA delegation. This includes assisting with the IFSA booth, IFSA social media, networking event and other planned activities. 

 

How to apply?

You do not need to be an IFSA member, but IFSA members will have priority.

  • 2 minute video discussing the topic of key challenges across different sectors. Use this video to illustrate your presentation skills, your ability to deliver an interesting and engaging talk in an enthusiastic manner. The main goal of the video is to assess your skills. Feel free to use any additional equipment which may help you deliver a more interesting talk. (Remember this will be a Ted-style talk and not a presentation).
  • A one page document highlighting some of the main challenges in the forestry sector and  across different sectors related to forestry. There are no right or wrong answers. The goal is to see your ideas for the session and how you would approach the topic.
