The UNEP Global Peatlands Initiative’s Research Working Group has developed a new online training series for peatland researchers (others are also welcome!). The sessions are designed to build capacity across the peatland research community in research impact (9 sessions planned) and research skills.

The next GPI training session is scheduled on Friday 30th July 2021, 10:00-11:30AM BST (UTC+1). This session will be entitled  “How to write and use policy briefs” and run by Jan Peters (Greifswald Mire Center) and Prof. Mark Reed (SRUC).

This session is led by Jan Peters from Michael Succow Foundation, also a partner in the Greifswald Mire Centre, and Prof Mark Reed from Scotland’s Rural College. In the session, you will learn how to write and use policy briefs, considering different types of policy audience, the benefits and risks of co-producing briefs with policy networks and different ways of using your brief to influence policy. Both trainers have extensive experience developing and using policy briefs with national governments and international policy processes on the EU and UN level, and will present case studies of their own work in peatland policy.

Preparation for the day

Please choose (only) one policy product to read and critique before the training. You can choose a policy brief, an infographic or a presentation (note that presentations consist of both a PowerPoint file and a note file in Word with the same title and one has a video of the slides being presented). You will be asked to discuss the product you chose in small groups, explaining what you liked or disliked about it, and why.

Choose the policy product you want to review from one of the three folders via this link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yrgsd8icbril25r/AAAVx7Stf8_o2PQ0dkJwPnIxa?dl=0

We look forward to seeing you there !
