The fifteenth session of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) will be held from 4th to 8th May 2020 at United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA. As outlined in the quadrennial programme of work of the Forum for the period 2017-2020, even-year sessions will focus on policy dialogue, development and decision-making, while odd-year sessions will focus on discussions on implementation, technical advice and exchange of experiences.

The Major Group Children and Youth (MGCY) to the UNFF, is seeking individuals to join it at the 15th session of the UN Forum on Forests. This is the premier forests body of the United Nations. To learn more about the UNFF visit their website: https://www.un.org/esa/forests/ 

This years’ negotiations will focus on the progress made in the implementation of the ambitious UN Strategic Plan for Forests 2017-2030 and member states will present their undertakings within their respective voluntary national contributions. Furthermore, priorities will be set for the quadrennial programme of work for the years 2021-2024. In addition, the High-Level Segment, including a forest partnership forum with the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, non-governmental organizations and private sector chief executive officers will discuss how ambitions can be raised for stronger collaborative, coherent and participatory actions to advance zero net deforestation beyond 2020. 

We’re looking for a diverse range of young and enthusiastic people with balanced representation across gender, nationality, and age. You may be from IFSA or any other organization which looks at forests, environment or sustainable development.

There are two positions that you can apply to: Observer Delegates or Policy Delegates 

Observer Delegate – Observers can choose to spend the whole week at UNFF15, or just a few days. These delegates will commit to writing blogs and sharing insights (e.g. on social media) regarding their experience, but do not have to contribute to policy statements and reports.

Policy Delegate – Policy delegates will have the opportunity and responsibility for supporting preparations for UNFF15, contributing to writing statements, and potentially making interventions. These delegates will commit to attending the full week of UNFF15.
