Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international non-profit membership organization that promotes responsible forest management through certification, standards development, and multi-stakeholder engagement, while also advancing restoration and conservation.

The organization was established in 1993 as a response to concerns over global deforestation, FSC is widely regarded as the leader in sustainable forest management, operating the world’s most rigorous and trusted forest certification system.

The FSC certification provides a credible link between responsible production and consumption of forest products, enabling consumers and businesses to make purchasing decisions that benefit people and the environment as well as providing ongoing business value.

IFSA’s Engagement

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and IFSA formalized their collaboration through a five-year partnership agreement signed in 2024, and as an FSC International organizational member, IFSA works with FSC to strengthen youth engagement in forest stewardship and holds voting rights as a member in good standing.

The mission of the IFSA-FSC long-term partnership is to make the FSC programmes and FSC’s intercultural components more accessible to IFSA members, in order to connect, empower, and educate the next generation of leading forest professionals in research and applied forest ecosystem management as well as traditional forest-based professionals to understand and participate in FSC processes.
