The 6th UN Environment Assembly
Regional Consultation Meeting for the European Region
27-29 November 2023, Hybrid
The 6th UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) is coming up soon in February 2024–the world’s highest decision-making body on environmental matters. It will probably deliberate and adopt resolutions on topics such as chemical pollution, nature-positive solutions, resources and raw materials or geoengineering.
We are pleased to announce the Regional Consultation Meeting (RCM) for the European Region taking place from 27-29 November 2023 in Bratislava, Slovakia. The RCM is a part of preparations for UNEA-6 which will be held from 26 February to 1 March 2024 a the UNEP Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, under the theme “Effective, inclusive and sustainable multilateral actions to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution”. The meeting will have hybrid elements to ensure the participation of those unable to join us in person.
The consultation strives to prepare stakeholders for UNEA-6 and to build capacity, to discuss and agree on a regional statement for UNEA-6 with core messages, and to gather input to the positions developed by the upcoming thematic working groups leading on input on different UNEA resolutions.
Interpretation from and to English in other UN languages used in the region (French, Spanish, Russian) as well as sign language are possible where necessary.
Travel support for participants to cover your trip and accommodation is available and priority will be given to UNEP-accredited organisations with an interest in the process, ensuring geographic and gender balance and the participation of different Major Groups. Organisers will provide guidance on accommodation options and seek to make a booking for all.
