Calling for Tree Planting Volunteer Participants
on “Nusantara ASRI Village Day”
A Global Forestation Movement Initiated by the Ministry of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration in Indonesia
- What is Nusantara ASRI Village Day?
The Nusantara ASRI Village Day or what we called in Indonesian “Hari Desa Asri Nusantara” is an initiative forestation campaign led by the Ministry of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration in Indonesia. Held with the slogan of “Greening the Earth from Villages”, the campaign implies that a huge impact on the planet’s well-being could be done through small and simple actions. This commemoration day is going to be celebrated in order to increase public awareness regarding climate change and reduce the risk of disasters. In addition, the event aims to increase the development of “ASRI” (Aman [safe], Sehat [healthy], Rindang [naturalistic], and Indah [beautiful]) villages and other living sites. In Indonesia, the campaign implementation will be in the form of a simultaneous plantation across 74.961 villages.
- What does Nusantara mean, and how is it relevant?
Initially, “Nusantara” referred to Indonesia as an archipelago country. However, as the Ministry sees this movement as an opportunity to increase participation on a global level, we would like to invite all IFSA members, both Officials and Local Committee (LC) members, along with other IFSA partners (NGOs, Organisations, and others) to support this activity. This is a call for enthusiastic, highly-aware, and compassionate parties who would like to contribute to a better future for the forest & humankind.
- When and where will it be conducted?
This movement will take place on Monday, 20th of March 2023 in each of the students’ faculty, working place, and/or living side.
- How can we participate?
- This activity is voluntary. You may plant as many trees with various species as you want. Any number of plantations will be very much appreciated.
