Since 1990, the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe, more commonly know as FOREST EUROPE, is the Pan-European high-level political process for dialogue and cooperation on forest policy in Europe. It combines the views and ambitions of 47 signatories (46 European countries plus the EU) on the protection and sustainable use of their forests. To date, the FOREST EUROPE process has led to achievements such as guidelines, criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management. IFSA is a valued observer organisation, part of the 60 observers that currently engage in this process. We voice the interests of forestry students in European policy making pertaining to topics like: Green Economy and Jobs, Forestry Education and Promotion, Sustainable Forest Management. IFSA’s collaboration with the Liaison Office in Bratislava has recently led to a string of mutually beneficial projects. Examples are the joint communication about the FOREST EUROPE process to the European forestry educational institutes (June 2017) and the start of a much desired internship opportunity (September 2017). Europe has long been a stronghold for IFSA Local Committees and we feel deeply connected to the European forest policy process. Therefore, we look forward to a future of extended collaboration with FOREST EUROPE to improve the sustainable management of European forests!
