IFSA celebrates Environment Festival with United Nations Associations(UNA) in Canada
IFSA North America joins hands with UNA Canada to inspire collective action for environmental sustainability.
The One Earth – One Choice Environment Festival took place on 24 September 2022 at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Ms. Apsana Kafle, the Regional Representative for Northern America, and Ms. Paulina Vázquez Quintana, IFSA LC UBC, were the IFSA delegates for the event.
The festival provided a platform to youth-led environmental initiatives and community organizations to highlight their ideas and work towards Environment sustainability. We, International Forestry Students Association, shared our vision and mission to “create a world that appreciates forests” with the Canadian Environmentalist.
“The festival is an opportunity to outreach IFSA’s action across the world, invite young Canadian students to join us in our mission, and sign new partnerships in the region,” says Apsana Kafle.
“Our booth was visited by local students, forest industry representatives, and several other environmental organizations. I am excited to work together with them in enabling connections, sharing our research, and supporting each other in policy formulation inside UBC and beyond, says Vázquez Quintana.

Youth in Canada showing curiosity about IFSA
IFSA North America agreed to collaborate with the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Canada for joint climate action. Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Canada is an event under the YOUNGO (YOUNGO is the official youth constituency at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)) that works to educate, build knowledge and understanding among Canadian youth on climate change, sustainable development, and the United Nations system. Kafle will be representing IFSA at the LCOY conference later in October this year.
“IFSA UBC has been organizing local and international scale events in the past. This festival brings hope for more active engagement in the future”, says Anil Shrestha, a lecturer at the UBC Faculty of Forestry.
The festival kick-started as the first in-person IFSA event in North America post-pandemic.
