IFSA’s role in my career path: Kristjan Sepp
Widening horizon with an international experience and networking
My name is Kristjan Sepp, and I am an alumnus of IFSA. I studied Forest management in 2013 at the Estonian University of Life Sciences. In 2015, I learned what IFSA is through my local committee. I have always been interested in forestry, so when the opportunity came up to join IFSA, I joined immediately. These years in IFSA were eye-opening for me. I got to meet so many wonderful people that became my friends. In the year of 2016, I participated in my first IFSS. This year IFSS took place in Austria. After IFSS, I applied to be the head of the web sub-commission and got the position. I was head of the web sub-commission between 2016-2018. These years I was involved in several IFSA events that I really enjoyed. For example, I attended IFSS in 2016, 2017, and 2018 and the year of 2019, I was one of the OC members of IFSS 2019 Estonia.
I have been a member of IFSA for six years. It was through IFSA that I was able to develop my soft and hard skills. IFSA helped me develop my soft skills: communication skills, teamwork skills, and leadership skills. The experience helped me understand how to work with people from different cultures and backgrounds. It also helped me develop my communication skills, which are very important for any job. IFSA has also played an important role in developing my career. It has allowed me to get involved with interesting projects and meet new people working in similar fields but from different countries around the world!
Participating in IFSSs and the IFSS 2019 Estonia Organizing Committee gave me a lot of experience working in a team. We had a lot of workshops where we learned how to work in teams, how to communicate with each other, how to solve problems and how to plan events together.
These years in IFSA were eye-opening. I got to meet so many wonderful people. I may be getting away from forestry as I have my company where I work full-time. I am a motivated and creative person with an interest in Forestry and business. I have a wide range of work experience.
Currently, my main work involves web development. IFSA’s website is made on WordPress, and I was head of the web sub-commission for two years. These two terms as an IFSA Official really helped me develop my skills in WordPress. Moreover, now I focus on creating websites made on WordPress https://seo-agentuur.ee/. I have two of my e-commerce shops. One of them sells wooden accessories, and you can check some wooden accessories I have made here: https://treefield.eu. Some of the wooden products are handmade by me, and the wood is sourced from my own tree plantation. My second webshop is for selling Christmas trees. In my final words, I recommend joining IFSA if you want to learn more about forestry or even meet new people! Being part of IFSA as an official helped me to improve professionally and inspired me to explore different fields. It was an overall great experience to be an IFSA member.
