LC Project of March 2024
Name of Project: Seedlings Care Activity
Local Committee: IFSA FAMU, Uganda
The Local Committee (LC) of the International Forestry Students’ Association (IFSA) at Makerere University (FAMU) once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to forest conservation and biodiversity protection through its recent Seedling Care Activity. This event, held on Saturday, February 10th, 2024, is part of an ongoing initiative aimed at nurturing planted trees, safeguarding biodiversity, and promoting sustainable forestry practices.
Since its inception, IFSA LC FAMU has consistently been at the forefront of efforts to foster environmental stewardship and responsible forestry management. The Seedling Care Activity served as yet another testament to their enduring commitment, reflecting a year-round dedication to the care and maintenance of forest ecosystems. The members of LC FAMU believe that forest conservation extends beyond tree planting. Continuous aftercare—through regular maintenance activities—is essential to ensure that the trees thrive and grow into healthy forests. This aligns with IFSA’s global mission of promoting sustainable forest management practices and conserving biodiversity for future generations.
The Seedling Care Activity took place within the Makerere University campus, which is home to the tree planting initiative spearheaded by LC FAMU in December of 2023. The event included critical maintenance tasks such as spot weeding, pruning, and recording the status of each tree planted during the earlier event on December 4th, 2023. Through this event, LC FAMU members are actively contributing to the health of local biodiversity while also promoting climate change mitigation efforts through carbon sequestration. Thus, IFSA would like to acknowledge the remarkable impact of this sustainable project and is pleased to award it the LC Project of the Month for March 2024. Congratulations and keep up the good work!
