LC Project of the Month (April 2023)
Forestry Versatility Competition
After three years break, LC Brno finally had the opportunity to organise Forestry Versatility, a beautiful event in Europe. Forestry Versatility is a competition in different forestry activities and traditions because this year was already the 34th year. The event took place from 1st – 7th April; the most important thing is having fun and making new friends!
Day 1 and 2 (Saturday and Sunday): The first two days were the arrival of the competitors, their accommodation, familiarization with the program, and registration. Everything took place in the university club Green, our base for the whole week. On Sunday evening, there was a beer-pong tournament.
Day 3 (Monday): On Monday, a forest logging competition was held on Mendel University’s premises. The disciplines were: disc slicing from round billet laying on base, disc slicing from standing round billet, branching on time, assembling cutting a section of the chainsaw, and disc slicing by double–handed saw and harvester simulator. There was also an opening ceremony before the competition, and we had a wonderful goulash for lunch. In the evening, there was a Tour de Beer race with five stops in five pubs, and it was really fun!
Day 4 (Tuesday): On Tuesday, we went to the University Forest Enterprise, and the disciplines were forest inventory and orienteering, which included identifying different natural objects. After the disciplines, we made a fire and roasted sausages on a stick. On Tuesday evening, we had a concert with our faculty band and even had some live music.
Day 5 (Wednesday): The last discipline took place on Wednesday: hunting and shooting. Specifically, it was trap and skeet with a shotgun, paper target shooting with a small-bore rifle, and accompanying discipline – archery. The weather was nice all day, and we had a barbecue for lunch. An international evening was then held in Club Green, where we got to know different traditions and dishes and could try different types of alcohol. There was a really lovely atmosphere the whole evening.
Day 6 (Thursday): On Thursday, the results and closing ceremony were announced in Křtiny castle. We also had a celebratory lunch. After that, our dean gave a closing speech and thanked everyone for participating. In the afternoon, we showed the participants around the beauties of Brno, and in the evening, we met for the last time in the club Green.
Day 7 (Friday): We said goodbye to everyone on Friday, and the contestants left according to their schedules.
In conclusion, Forestry Versatility is a great event where you will gain a lot of experience and meet many great people. This year we had teams from Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic (Brno team), Czech Republic (Prague team), Estonia, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, South Korea, and Switzerland. As an organizing team, we enjoyed the event and look forward to seeing you next year!
