Tree recognition plaques

The motivation

Forestry students are a little group in our faculty and the reason for that arrives in the fact that most people enter to the career for Agronomics engineering. With that in our minds we as students observe that the forestry students need more attention in every space that we are part of and exist a lack of collaboration or attention between the faculty and us.

The idea

We thought about it and started to bring ideas to improve the motivation of the Forestry Students in the university. One of them was called “Proyecto placas de reconocimiento” that translate to tree recognition plaques project and the objective was simple. Give forestry students (and every student really) a tool to recognize species in our backyard with QR codes on trees with all the information from the specie.

The project itself

With a little group of participants of our LC we talk to our center of student’s entity that represents all the students and ask for help to implement this in the backyard. Then we talk to the faculty to ask for permission and if there was a way to obtain financial help. And at the same time, we were working on the design of our plaques with the QR codes.

The implementation

With all set up the plaques were done in a metallic material and installed in 14 trees in the backyard with bee wax in the screws to not harm the trees with any infections. This was made on the last day of class of 2022 and with a ceremony of closure of the year. This Project was made with the help of the centre of students in our faculty and the faculty itself that help us with financial terms.
