FORSON UDUS Academic Odyssey in the Premier University (University of Ibadan)

On the 15th of November, 2023, FORSON UDUS forestry students embarked on a holistic exploration of the University of Ibadan, delving into diverse aspects of their academic curriculum and beyond. Seventy-eight practical year students, led by IFSA Tree Club and accompanied by departmental lecturers Dr. P. O. Ige and D. O. A. Quadri, engaged in an enlightening visit to the University of Ibadan Zoological Garden. This immersive experience aimed to deepen practical understanding of animal feeding habits, aligning seamlessly with their academic pursuits. The guided tour, focusing on animal feeding routines, encompassed dietary considerations, feeding schedules, and specialized diets. Practical year students observed and noted behaviours, habitat preferences, and interactions, fostering insightful discussions with departmental lecturers to bridge the theoretical-practical gap. Despite time constraints, this hands-on encounter allowed for the practical application of theoretical knowledge, significantly enhancing comprehension.

From the zoological garden, the students seamlessly transitioned to an unexpected but enriching engagement with the IFSA Tree Club by extending an invitation to visit the University of Ibadan, Forestry department. Continuing their exploration, the students were guided through the Department of Forestry at the University of Ibadan. Under the mentorship of distinguished lecturers, Professor Azeez, the Head of the Department, delivered a metaphorical discourse on the transition of foresters from infancy to maturity, emphasizing the importance of extensive knowledge. Professor Oluwadare, the former dean, welcomed and inspired students with insights into the myriad opportunities within forestry. This short yet impactful lecture left an indelible mark, sparking enthusiasm and a deeper understanding of forestry intricacies.
