Center for International Forest Research (CIFOR)

Established in 1993, The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) was created to be a ‘center without walls’, marshaling interdisciplinary research teams in collaboration with partners to tackle forest policy changes. Today, the CIFOR is a leading and world-renown institution in forest science and is the host organization of the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF).

By using a global, multidisciplinary approach, CIFOR aims to improve human well-being, protect the environment, and increase equity, through conducting innovative research, developing partners’ capacity, and actively engaging in dialogue with all stakeholders to inform policies and practices that affect forests and people.

CIFOR is a CGIAR Research Center, and leads the CGIAR Research Program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA) and has its headquarter in Bogor, Indonesia, with offices in Nairobi, Kenya; Yaounde, Cameroon; Lima, Peru and Bonn, Germany. Research is done in more than 50 countries in six thematic work areas:

Forests and human well-being; Sustainable landscapes and food; Equal opportunities, gender, justice and tenure; Climate change, energy and low-carbon development; Value chains, finance and investment; Forest management and restoration.

IFSA’s Engagement

Throughout the past years, IFSA students have been greatly supported by CIFOR at countless occasions. Beyond the tremendous engagement our association has with the GLF, a longstanding collaboration between CIFOR and IFSA reaches from regional engagement of Local Committees to sharing resources, such as online-platforms. Furhtermore, many (former) IFSA members end up working with or at CIFOR for their master thesis or after their education.
