Save the Endangered Species of the World
On the occasion of World Endangered Species Day, 17th May,2025, Saturday, the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources (School of Agriculture and Allied Sciences), Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (a central university),
Srinagar, Uttarakhand,India, organized an academic seminar regarding, “Identification, Status and Conservation of endangered flora and fauna of India”.The students of UG, PG and PhD participated in the event in the honorary presence of
HOD- Dept. of Forestry and other faculty members of the department and presentations were done regarding various endangered Flora and Fauna of India. The event was coordinated by “Aranyadhara- The Flow of Forest” (a student’s eco club) formed by the students of the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources under the mentorship of Dr. J.S. Butola (Asst. Professor – Dept. of Forestry and NR).
The “Endangered Species Coalition”, an organization based in the United States also collaborated in the event with the Department and Eco- Club, “Aranyadhara”. Department promises more enhanced work on the Endangered species of the
country and Garhwal Himalayas and hold regular workshops and seminars making students and people aware of the endangered species of the Garhwal region.
FACULTY SPEAKS:
Prof D.S. Chauhan stressed upon the conservation of indigenous species of Uttarakhand like the Himalayan Monal, and the Rhododendron.
Prof. Munesh Kumar emphasized importance of biodiversity and conservations by his valuable insights and shared sheer knowledge to students about conservation
Dr. L.S. Kandari explained the role of wildlife and the need for their urgent conservation.
Dr. J.S. Butola told the students about endangered medicinal plants of the Garhwal Himalayas and urgent need of their conservation so as to maintain the ecological balance and preservation of habit and habitat of various wild animals and
plants.
Presentations were made by students of the department about Endangered Himalayan flora, Mammals, Birds, Amphibians, Reptiles, Butterflies, and Freshwater and Marine Aquatic Life. Students participated are from UG and PG, namely Hari
Prasad, Shristi Negi, Rahul Chakraborty, Smriti Kannaujiya, Nisha Rai, Utkarsh Mishra, Abhijith A., Shilpi Gupta.
The event was Anchored by Jiya Bisht.
This activity emphasized student’s awareness and knowledge about Conservation of Endangered Species of the Country and the world.
