The department of Forest and Wood Science, Faculty of AgriSciences, Stellenbosch University, hosted a ‘First Year Braai’ for Forest and Wood Science freshman students.
As a tradition, SFSA hosts a “First Year Braai” for freshman students with the support from the department. It was held at the Paul Sauer Building on March 3rd in the evening this year. Several lecturers, including Prof. Bruce Talbot, the Department’s most likable Head, as well as a few delegations from forest-related organizations like SAPPI, attended the event.
The event has several purposes. First, it officially welcomes the first-year Forest and Wood Science students into the department by connecting them with their peers, seniors, lecturers, and forest-related organizations in South Africa. Second, it provides a forum for first-year students to interact with one another, professors, and seniors in order to help them gain a better grasp of forest-related themes in light of future forest objectives. Finally, it promotes an atmosphere in which first-year students can freely discuss academics and other issues with both professors or senior staff within and beyond the department.
Such events are extremely beneficial particularly for first-year students, as they assist them in making the transition from high school to tertiary education as smoothly as possible. The SFSA LC appreciates the employees and professors at Stellenbosch University’s Department of Forest and Wood Science for their unwavering support.
