About: cbd The Earth’s biological resources are vital to humanity’s economic and social development. As a result, there is a growing recognition that biological diversity is a global asset of tremendous value to present and future generations. At the same time, the threat to species and ecosystems has never been so great as it is today. Species extinction caused by human activities continues at an alarming rate. The Convention was founded in 1992 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (the Rio “Earth Summit”). Nowadays the Convention has 168 members and is representing a dramatic step forward in the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components, and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the use of genetic resources: More information cbd2IFSA’s role IFSA functions as a representative of the youth also at the COP Conference on Biodiversity, which happens every second year. We send observers to the IPBES (International Panel on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services) as well. We try to use this opportunity to enhance the importance of Biodiversity for young forest students. Especially since 80% of global biodiversity can be found in our forests, IFSA feels a special responsibility to educate students all over the world about our diverse nature. Conferences Luckily, we have the opportunity to send delegates to IPBES, which happens in Bonn and is a expert meeting  and the Conference on Biodiversity. These meetings can be seen as milestones regarding international policy on conserving biodiversity. The next meetings will be the IPBES in March 2018 and the CBD COP 14 in 2018.  ]]>
