Open Call for Delegates
IFSA Delegation to UNEA6 and UNFF Major Group Led Initiative

IFSA at UNEA 6

The sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) is scheduled to occur from February 26 to March 1, 2024, at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. As the world’s premier decision-making body on environmental matters, this five-day event will convene decision-makers, scientists, the private sector, communities, and other relevant groups. The assembly’s objective is to formulate pertinent recommendations and immediate actions aimed at restoring the symbiotic relationship between nature and humanity, with a particular focus on addressing issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and waste.

IFSA will participate in this significant meeting as an observer. This presents a valuable opportunity for IFSA members to acquire practical knowledge and experience in understanding how environmental decisions are discussed. As part of the younger generation, it also allows us to explore the ways in which we can actively contribute to global environmental initiatives.

UNFF-Major Group Led Initiative

Following UNEA6, the UNFF-Major Group Led Initiative is set to take place from March 4 to 6, 2024. This initiative, organized by the UNFF’s Major Group, serves as an important meeting with the objective of formulating recommendations and addressing challenging forestry issues to be presented at the upcoming 19th Session of the UNFF in New York. Approximately 60 participants, representing each major group within the UNFF, are expected to attend this three-day meeting.

IFSA plays a key role in the major group for children and youth, actively engaging in the forum by delivering relevant interventions and contributing to the Global Forest Goals and the United Nations Strategic Plan for Forests (UNSPF). During this event, selected delegates are expected to actively participate in discussions, provide recommendations, and support relevant tasks and assignments.
