Shaping the Future of Restoration Education in Asia
WINNER 2025 — Erasmus Huis, Jakarta | 9 October 2025

Together with CIFOR-ICRAF and partner universities in Asia, IFSA co-organized a collaborative session to rethink how restoration education is designed and delivered across the region.

This space brought educators, students, and employers into one conversation, reflecting on what today’s curricula are missing and how we can prepare future restoration leaders who are ready to work across science, society, and policy.

Throughout the session, we collectively envisioned a new model of learning, one that transforms knowledge into action. Participants emphasized that restoration education should not stay confined to the classroom. Instead, it must immerse learners in real landscapes, embrace community and Indigenous knowledge, and equip them with both strong technical capacity and the social skills needed to collaborate, negotiate, and lead in complex environments.

We recognized that meaningful change will only happen when universities, practitioners, youth networks, government institutions, and communities move forward together — building partnerships that connect learning with real-world impact across Asia.

We are grateful to all the inspiring speakers, panelist, and participants who contributed their perspectives, passion, and commitment to restoration education. This is just the beginning of a longer journey — and together, we’ll continue co-creating a more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive future for landscape restoration.
