ForestNavigator – IFSA representation at the stakeholder workshop
On June 19-20, the EU-funded ForestNavigator project held its first Stakeholder Board workshop at IIASA headquarters in Laxenburg, Austria. The project aims to model policy pathways and enhance the contribution of the European forestry sector to achieve climate neutrality. On this occasion, IFSA was invited to join the project’s Stakeholder Board on behalf of youth and young professionals in the forestry sector. Johanna Klapper, the IFSA Executive Secretary, represented IFSA and the youth in forestry in the two-day workshop. The Stakeholder Board comprises 21 members from various fields, including forest owners, policymakers, NGOs and civil society, researchers, etc. It is involved in the discussion and design of the project’s process and outcomes.
At the workshop, Johanna met two familiar IFSA faces: Barbara Öllerer, current IFSA Gender Commissioner, and Sylvannisa Putri Nina, IFSA HoC Communication 2020/21, were present at the workshop as co-organizers and co-facilitators in their roles at the Institute of Forest, Environmental and Natural Resource Policy of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU).
The ForestNavigator project is coordinated by IIASA and funded under the Horizon Europe Program. It was launched in 2022 and will design robust policies for the forest sector to achieve climate neutrality. In addition, the project will develop a Policy Modelling Toolbox, relying on near-real-time monitoring of forests, carbon, and biodiversity, to model robust policy pathways and to provide policymakers with decision-making tools for climate action. IFSA is excited to bring the youth perspective to the discussions and to share the ideas and concerns of the next generation in forestry.
